Product Overview
A Conveyor Impact Bed, also known as an Impact Cradle, Belt Impact Bed or Conveyor Belt Support System, is designed to protect conveyor belts at high-impact loading and transfer points. It is installed underneath the receiving belt where bulk materials such as coal, iron ore, limestone, aggregates, rock and mineral ores are discharged from a chute or hopper.
Compared with conventional impact idlers, a heavy-duty impact bed provides continuous belt support across the loading zone. Its impact bars absorb and distribute the energy generated when heavy or sharp-edged material falls onto the conveyor belt, helping prevent belt sag, puncture, tearing, excessive vibration and structural damage.
Modern conveyor impact beds normally combine a robust steel frame with replaceable Impact Bars / Impact Slide Bars. The bars commonly use a low-friction UHMW-PE top layer combined with an energy-absorbing rubber, polyurethane or elastomer base. This construction allows the belt to slide smoothly over the support surface while the lower layer absorbs impact energy. Martin Engineering and Flexco use similar principles in their industrial impact cradle and impact bed systems.

The impact bed is normally installed at a conveyor loading zone, transfer point, hopper or chute discharge area, where material falls onto the receiving conveyor. In these locations, the impact bed supports the belt and helps maintain a stable belt line while absorbing high-energy impacts.
For heavy-duty mining applications, an appropriately selected impact bed can also work together with a conveyor skirting system to create a stable sealing surface. Better belt support helps maintain contact between the belt and skirt rubber, reducing fugitive material, dust and spillage around the transfer point.
How Does a Conveyor Impact Bed Work?
When bulk material drops from a chute onto the conveyor belt, the impact energy is transferred through the belt to the support structure. Conventional idlers can experience concentrated loading and accelerated bearing or roller wear.
A conveyor impact bed replaces or supports the impact zone with a continuous bed of energy-absorbing bars. The UHMW-PE top layer provides a smooth, low-friction surface for the moving belt, while the rubber or polyurethane layer underneath absorbs and distributes impact forces.
The steel frame supports the impact bars and maintains the required trough profile. Adjustable wing supports can be designed to match different conveyor trough angles, while modular impact bars allow worn components to be replaced without replacing the complete support frame. Similar adjustable and replaceable designs are used by established international conveyor manufacturers.
