Why Fused Silica Ceramic Rollers Matter in Both Heating and Cooling Zones
A Small Furnace Component with a Direct Impact on Glass Quality
In a glass tempering furnace, operators usually focus on heating temperature, air pressure and quenching parameters. However, the condition and precision of fused silica ceramic rollers can also have a significant influence on glass transportation and final product quality.
Heating Zone: Consistent Support at High Temperature
During heating, ceramic rollers continuously support and move the glass through a high-temperature environment. High-purity fused silica offers excellent thermal stability and low thermal expansion, helping rollers maintain dimensional consistency during repeated heating cycles.
A properly manufactured roller with good straightness, surface finish and runout control can help reduce unwanted contact marks, vibration and uneven glass movement. This is particularly important for demanding applications such as Low-E and photovoltaic glass.
