  • Description:

The TAPPI Standard Sheet Former is designed for manually creating sheets of paper. This traditional system is placed on a countertop and operates through manual agitation. The pulp is filled via a water pressure system, while draining occurs by gravity. This machine produces sheets with a 159mm diameter, and is made entirely of durable stainless steel. A version for creating square sheets is also available upon request.
To complete the paper formation process, a sheet press and quick dryer are required. The machine comes with a set of discs for pressing and rings for air drying. It is ideal for determining the drainage time of pulp and for creating handsheets used in reflectance testing of pulp (as per standard sheet machine procedures).

    Key Features:
    ◦ Construction: Made of high-quality stainless steel.
    ◦ Paper Size: Produces sheets with a diameter of 160mm.
    ◦ Easy Operation: Designed for countertop placement, making sheet creation simple and precise.
    ◦ Includes: Agitator, roller, drying discs, drying rings, and blotting paper for efficient drying.

    Purpose and Technical Specifications:
This sheet former is essential for producing samples under varying conditions to study how different factors, such as pulp material, pulping methods, raw material conditioning (e.g., beating, fillers, sizing agents), affect paper properties. It meets ISO standards, making it easy to prepare small amounts of sheets quickly and accurately. It is also used to measure drainage time according to TAPPI standards.

    Application:
Creating paper sheets is crucial for testing the physical properties of pulp. The process involves placing a pulp slurry at a specified concentration onto the strainer, where it forms a sheet under negative pressure. The sheet is then dried and tested under controlled temperature and pressure conditions. Various chemical additives can be added to the pulp, and the resulting paper can be analyzed to evaluate the effect of these additives.

The PL6-T Handsheet Former complies with several standards, including ISO 5269/1, TAPPI T205, SCAN C26, PAPTAC C4, T221cm-99, and T272sp-97. It is widely used in papermaking and wet fiber forming experiments, providing valuable data for research into paper’s physical, mechanical, and optical properties. This equipment is commonly used in universities and research institutions for paper testing, production monitoring, and new product development.
